  1. Where do I get the latest version of QWS?
You can download the latest version of QWS from the QWS site, http://andrelouis.com/qws/.
  2. How do I install QWS?
Simply run the setup program you downloaded and follow the prompts.
  3. How do I update QWS and keep my settings?
If you update your version of QWS and want to keep your existing settings, just backup the file QWS.INI and replace it after installation of the new version.
  4. Can I get a document version of the QWS documentation?
You can download a document version of the QWS documentation from the downloads page.
  5. Do I need an instrument definition file to use QWS with my synth?
Instrument lists simply provide a convenient way of selecting patches on your synth by name, rather than directly using MIDI program and bank numbers. QWS works just the same with or without an instrument list.
  6. Can I use a software synth or soundfonts with QWS?
QWS should operate with whatever MIDI instruments you have available on your system, including any software synths or soundfont devices you have installed. Using additional programs, QWS can also work with VST instruments, see the Articles page. If you want to see patch names for software instruments, you still need to use an instrument list, just as you would an external synthesiser.
  7. How do I change the tempo during a song?
You can enter a tempo event wherever you like - though for compatibility it is best if you put all tempo marks in the first track. Enter a tempo event either from the Controller Editor or the Event List in QWS.
  8. How do I change the time signature during a song?
You can enter a time signature event wherever you like - though for compatibility it is best to put all time signature events on the first track. Enter time signature events using the Event List.
  9. Can I launch QWS directly from Explorer?
You can register .mid and .syx files with QWS so that QWS will load these file types automatically. If you did not do this at setup, to do this, from the Windows Run dialog, enter the full path to where you installed QWS.EXE and add /r to the end of the command. You will be prompted if the file types are already registered with other programs.
  10. Can I print music using QWS?
QWS does not currently have the facilities to generate printed score and there are no plans for this feature at present.
  11. Can QWS do audio?
At present, QWS is strictly a MIDI sequencer - it has no provision to record, process or play waveform audio. No plans are currently in place to include audio features in QWS.
